Metal Roofing - Is it the Future of Roofing? (18 Oct 2008) When you hear the words "metal roof", you probably think about old tin roofs, or barn roofs. However, the truth is that metal roofing is a lot more versatile than most people think. Copper roofing is among the most prestigious of materials, lead roofs have been in safe use for hundreds of years, and even humble steel roofs can be made to be attractive and long lasting.
Most homes today have asphalt shingles on their roofs. These shingles are easy to install, and inexpensive. However, they have a limited lifespan, and must be thrown away after they're removed from the roof. By comparison, a well kept metal roof doesn't have to be replaced every couple of decades, and if you do choose to remove it, the metal it's made of can be recycled into other things. Rainwater than runs off of metal roofs, and into your yard, isn't contaminated the way it would be if it ran off of an asphalt roof, either.

The Pellet Burning Stove (07 Jun 2008) One main advantage of a pellet burning stove is that it does not need a typical chimney. Instead, the few gases can escape through a hole in the wall behind the appliance using a Pellet Vent or Class L chimney of stainless steel interior and galvanized or aluminum exterior. If you already have a regular chimney, you can use it, but it must be modified with the addition of a smaller pipe, usually of stainless steel. Pellets are clean and easy to use and, depending on your stove model and heating needs, may only need to be added once a day or even just twice a week.
